Green Tea for better sports performance

Green Tea for better sports performance

Tea probably isn't the first thing that comes to mind when I say sports drink, but research has shown it can have great effects on your sporting performance. Moroccan Mint is an organic Japanese green tea with a light flavour making it perfect for rehydrating and supporting your training goals.

Green tea has been shown to be just as effective at hydrating you during exercise as water is, making it a great alternative for those who get bored of plain water. Green tea also contains a small amount of caffeine, something that is often touted as improving the quality of training.

The way in which your body uses carbohydrates and fat changes with the consumption of green tea. Green tea causes the body to favour burning fat over carbohydrates during exercise, improving the fat burning benefits of exercise. The ability to use fat as an energy source more effectively is hugely beneficial for endurance athletes. The fat-burning effects of green tea may extend outside of exercising, a Taiwanese study found that habitual green tea drinkers (10 years or more drinking green tea) had less body fat compared to those who didn't drink green tea regularly.

While exercise is very beneficial for our health, it does also cause the production of free radicals. The rich antioxidant content of green tea is a great way to clean up the tissue-damaging free radicals, possibly decreasing recovery time between sessions.

A few cups of green tea each day is a pretty easy way to improve your physical performance. You can enjoy Moroccan Mint hot or cold, you may like to add a pinch of salt to a bottle of the tea and use it as your workout drink.
